David Weber, born in 1977, lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland. Known in the art world under the pseudonym SWOX, he is a contemporary artist whose journey is deeply intertwined with the world of graffiti, a field he has been exploring since the age of 12. This early start in the tagging scene shaped his artistic identity, fueling his creative energy and forging his determination to express himself through powerful and authentic forms.

In 1989, he ventured for the first time into the art of tagging, inspired by the Parisian graffiti scene, seeking to bring color and life to the urban environment. In 1997, he adopted the pseudonym SWOX, marking a turning point in his career and artistic identity. This name, now synonymous with his work, reflects his continuous evolution in embracing a variety of techniques and influences.

The year 2015 marked a new phase in his work. While letters remain central to his art, they become more subtle, hidden behind abstract forms and architectural sculptures. SWOX then began experimenting with various techniques, from acrylic painting to spray cans, using large brushes to create crisp, flat surfaces.

His style, both refined and elegant, embodies a sophistication that transcends his graffiti roots while preserving their raw essence. SWOX's work is characterized by a continuous exploration of lettering, which he deconstructs and reinvents to uncover new forms. This methodical approach leads him to create abstract pieces oscillating between architectural graphics and organic shapes, always anchored in a deconstructed geometry.

His inspiration comes from a multitude of fields, ranging from design and architecture to graphic arts and typography. The influence of nature and his passion for disciplines such as surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding are also evident in his creations, grounding his work in underground cultures. Music and fashion play a central role in his creative process, influencing his choice of colors and compositions.

A distinctive aspect of his work lies in his use of iridescent pigments, which shift depending on the viewing angle and light, giving his creations a unique depth. This technique creates a dynamic interaction between material and light, offering an immersive experience to the viewer.

Today, David Weber, alias SWOX, continues to seek new forms and inspirations, balancing minimalism and rich contrasts while staying true to his roots. His works, whether interpreted as architectural forms or abstract sculptures, reflect his commitment to innovation and captivate audiences by capturing the essence of graffiti while reinventing it.
